Market rumors said Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd.’s subsidiary Shenzhen Century Science & Technology (SCST) may enter Apple’s supply chain with its panels that feature one glass solution (OGS) technology, which have been sent to Apple for testing on its iPad mini 2.
SCST may cooperate with Innolux and become the third panel supplier for iPad mini after LG Display and AU Optronics.
Rumors said the 7.85-inch iPad mini 2′s Retina display will adopt OGS technology, and new photomasks for the iPad mini 2 have been delivered, which indicates that the pilot product is set to begin.
WitsView predicts that AU Optronics’ panel shipments for the iPad mini stood at 700,000 units in December 2012, and the total shipments for 2013 will reach 8 million to 10 million.
DisplaySearch forecast that the shipments of iPad mini and iPad mini 2 in 2013 will reach up to 50 million units, exceeding that of the 9.7-inch iPad.
